We have told you a rule for speaking English that you should also start thinking in English, but there is a rule that while thinking in English, you should also take care of tenses. It should not be that Present Tense is speaking in Past Tense and Future Tense in Present Tense. We are giving you information about its rules.
Basic Knowledge for Speaking English
अब तक हमने सीखा कि अगर अंग्रेजी में बोलना हो तो अंग्रेजी में ही सोचना भी चाहिए। यह शुरुआत में थोड़ा मुश्किल ना लग सकता है, पर यकीन मानिये इस नियम को फॉलो करने से हमारी अंग्रेजी सीखने की आधी मुश्किल से पल भर में ही दूर हो जायेंगी। पर यह याद रखें-इंग्लिश बोलने से पहले जब सोचने लगे तो Tense का ध्यान अवश्य रखें।
Till now we have seen that if you want to speak in English, then you should also think in English. It may seem difficult in the beginning, but believe that following this rule, it will overcome half the difficulties of learning our English in a moment. But remember – When you think before speaking English, be sure to take care of tense.
कही ऐसा ना हो कि आप Present Tense को Past Tense में और Future Tense Present Tense मे बोल रहे हो इससे आपकी सारी मेहनत पर पानी हम पिछले Article में Tense के बारे में बता चुके हैं।
It should not be that you are speaking present tense in past tense and future tense in present tense. This will drain your hard work. We have told about tenses in the previous article.
आज हम गौर करेंगे Main clause और Subordinate clause पर। इसे हमें English बोलने और लिखने के समय ध्यान में रखना होगा। पहले हम इन दोनों का मतलब बताते हैं, फिर Tense से इनका रिश्ता भी समझाएंगे।
Today we will look at the Main Clause and Subordinate Clause. From this, we have to keep in mind while speaking and writing English. First, we explain the meaning of these two and then we will also explain its relationship with tense.
Main Clause
इसे Independent clause भी कहा जाता है। यह तभी बनता है, जब हमारे पास Subject (कर्ता) और Verb (क्रिया) दोनों हो।
जैसे- John kicked the ball.
John-Subject, kicked-Verb ने sentence पूर्ण है। इसमें कुछ नया न भी जोड़ा जाये तो भी यह आसानी समझ आ सकता है।
Subordinate Clause
अब Subordinate Clause और Main Clause दोनों पर एक नज़र डालते हैं –
Reena said that she was innocent.
- Reena said – Main Clause ,
- That she was innocent – Subordinate Clause.
अपने देखा की वैसे Subordinate Clause में वाक्य अधूरा ही रह गया। कोई इसे सुन कर जरूर जानना चाहेगा की कौन innocent हैं? अब यह देखें कि Main और Subordinate clause में Tense का काम है? एक Simple rule वहां फॉलो करें। अगर Main clause Past tense में है at Subordinate clause Verb Past tense में होगा।
You saw that the sentence in the Subordinate Clause remained incomplete. Anyone listening to this would definitely want to know who is innocent? Now see that Tense’s work in Main and Subordinate clause? Follow a simple rule there. If the Main clause is in Past tense, the At Subordinate clause will be in Verb Past tense.
जैसे- Principal clause अगर Present tense या Future tense में है, तब Subordinate clause में verb किसी भी tense में दिया जा सकता है। पर वह context पर निर्भर करेगा।
For example, if the Principal clause is in Present tense or Future tense, then the verb in Subordinate clause can be given in any tense. But that will depend on the context.
- Rajesh said that he would not come to class.
- He was so weak that he could not stand.
Main clause. He said- (past tense) के साथ Subordinate cause में would आएगा। Will के साथ वह sentence गलत होगा-
He said that he will not come to class. पर यहां एक होटा-सा निगम और भी है। वह ध्यान रखे कि आप Subordinate Clause
में अगर कोई Universal truth के बारे मे बता रहे हैं तो वह Present Tense में ही बोला जाएगा।
1. My teacher taught me that the Earth rotates around the sun.
यह एक सत्य है, इसे सब जानते हैं कि पृथ्वी सूरज के चारों ओर चक्कर काटती है।
2.My father said that honesty is the best policy. यह भी universal truths में गिना जाता है, इसलिए said (past tense) के बावजूद हम Present tense का प्रयोग करेंगे।
Principal clause Present tense या Future tense में है, तब Subordinate clause में verb किसी भी tense में दिया जा सकता है। पर यह context पर निर्भर करेगा। जैसे-
- I believe that he is honest.
- I believe that he was honest.
- I shall believe that he is honest.
- I shall believe that he was honest.
वहाँ आप जिस context में बात करना चाहते हैं, उसी में tense को चुन सकते हैं।
