And many of them can tell you mystical or creepy stories – from night administrators in hotels and emergency workers to those who work in the cemetery. During the day, everything seems joyful and safe, but everything changes when the night falls …

Why do scary things happen at night? We have not been able to find a clear definitive answer, but we have selected the most interesting and creepy stories, so read them rather.

My supervisor was a Catholic. One day he started handing out rosaries to everyone who wanted them. At that time, we worked the night shift and finished work by 4 in the morning. For this we were paid excellent overtime. The plant itself was located in a remote part of Fresno, California.

One guy who took the rosary just settled in. He was young, without money – in general, he did not have a car, so every time he returned home on foot. To get out of the factory area, one had to walk 2 kilometers. Given the night, the streets were always empty, it was autumn, and therefore the approaching frost was felt.

One day he was walking back through a run-down quarter. There was a field on one side, streets and a couple of dilapidated buildings on the other. A woman came out of a building and walked straight towards him. Approaching, she said: “I will exchange you my ring for your rosary.” The guy was wearing a sweatshirt with a jacket, the rosary was around his neck under the sweatshirt. That is, that woman could not see at all that he had a rosary at all. So he asked: “How do you know that I have a rosary?”, but in response the woman simply repeated: “I will exchange my ring for your rosary.”

At that moment, he slipped past her and quickly walked away. But when he stopped to look back and see where she was, she was gone.

Real horror stories

I work in a crisis kindergarten. It is a children’s institution providing emergency and temporary assistance to children under the age of 7 years.

I used to work in cemeteries all the time. First I must say that I absolutely do not believe in the paranormal. However, at 2am in a dark room it sometimes gets creepy. Especially when you and 2 or 3 other girls in their twenties are the only adults in the building.

This institution was named after a child who was beaten to death by a parent. And the room itself is located in the same house where it happened. And the children’s playroom is in that child’s former nursery. This is such a symbol to prevent the violent death of other children at the hands of their parents.

So, there is a story that the spirit of this child is still haunting the nursery. And the worst thing happens at night. Basically, this version was supported only by the stories of the children who played there. They constantly asked about “this child.” For example, “Why doesn’t he need to go to bed?”, while pointing into the void. These stories just annoyed me, and I didn’t really listen to them.

A few weeks later, I was in the sleeping room—essentially the bedroom where all the children sleep. There should always be an adult in the room with children, I was alone. I was just reading a book with low backlight. The rest of the bedroom was pitch dark and silent.

All of a sudden, one child – about four or five years old – sat up abruptly on the bed and said, “Hey, why isn’t he sleeping? Why can he play? I want to play too!” And all this time he pointed to the wall, where there were no children nearby.

An instant crazy shiver ran through my entire body. I was so scared that I almost screamed. From that moment on, I refused to stay there alone.

Real horror stories- Pantry

One of my duties at the morgue where I worked was moving bodies at night. Once, at about 2 am, my colleague and I came to pick up documents for the transportation of another body. When we entered, we had the feeling that someone was there. So we went through the room to check everything and close all the doors. One door led to a room with coffins. Everyone hated that coffin room.

It was very cold in it all year round, the light was always dim, although the electricians were constantly trying to fix it. And for some reason there was a mannequin in the corner, in full military uniform. Neither to the village, nor to the city at all. By the way, the only people who were not bothered by that room were the sellers of places in the cemetery. And that’s only because they didn’t have a soul.

In general, we did not find anyone, so everyone locked up and left. An hour later we returned, it was necessary to register the “new guest” and at the same time drink a cup of coffee before leaving. We went into the kitchen and saw that the door to the room with the coffins was ajar. It’s pitch dark, but I could see something red in the mannequin’s uniform. But he shouldn’t have been so close to the door. We froze for a second, then I grabbed my partner by the wrist and we backed into the kitchen.

To be honest, it seemed to me that if we were too close to that door, something very bad would happen.

None of us ever approached that room again. Even during the day. I could spend the whole night alone in the morgue, because it’s hard to scare me with something. But there was definitely something wrong with that room.

Real horror stories – White noise

While I worked in the rescue service, I received the same call almost every night. On the other side of the wire, I constantly heard terrible screams (sometimes white noise), and then the call just stopped. It scared me to death every time.

The number was defined as stationary, the location – at the cemetery. The officers I sent every time never found anything. I was assured that it was interference on the telephone line or distortion from the rain, but in any case I did not work there for a long time.

Real horror stories at Director’s office

About 12 years ago, I worked as a security guard at the headquarters of a small company in New York. My colleague fell ill, so I had to stand alone for the night. Actually, it was an easy job. You just had to sit in the room, watch several cameras and periodically make rounds of the premises.

But that night I will remember for the rest of my life. At first, with peripheral vision, I saw movement on the monitor screen. A few minutes later, I saw in the monitor how someone was walking around the room. It was strange because there was no one in the building.

Of course, this scared me, but I went to check the offices anyway, because it was my job. I grabbed my flashlight and headed out the door. The first in line was a long corridor, and as soon as I entered it, I saw movement at its end. And it is worth noting that then I was completely scared. Frozen for a couple of minutes, I peered into the twilight for a long time, not knowing what to do next. And I seemed to come to my senses, moved further down the corridor, but the next moment there was a deafening shot.

It was the scariest moment in my life. And for some reason I kept asking myself why terrible things happen at night. Why at night? I slowly walked towards the sound of the shot to sort out the situation. And when he was already approaching the end of the corridor, he noticed a light in the director’s office. Slowly I approached the door and creaked it open. What I saw there will haunt me for the rest of my life.

The man sat in the director’s chair and shot himself in the head with a pistol, spattering blood and brains all over the wall and floor.

Later it turned out that one of the employees stayed after work that shift. The guard who worked during the day did not notice this guy. He had some problems in life and family. And since he hated the director, he decided to give him a “surprise” and scare the hell out of him. Anyway, I threw up several times from what I saw before I called the police. I was given 2 weeks off, but I still have nightmares about it.

Real horror stories at Hotel room

At night, I worked as a receptionist in a semi-posh hotel near the airport. One night, a woman from room 204 called me and said that quarrels, loud knocking and crying could be heard from room 206. I checked the database and found out that number 206 is empty, no one has settled there. I called the boss to find out what to do in such a situation, and he said that the security service decides this. With the guards, we decided to check the room.

Already at the exit from the elevator, we heard the same cry. Not even crying, but real loud sobs. My heart was pounding as we approached the room, so I gave the key card to the security guard.

The next 5 minutes seemed to pass in slow motion. The guard opens the door and immediately turns on the light. We enter the room and hear that the shower is turned on, and steam is coming from under the door. Only one lamp is lit in the room, it is very cold, and a girl is crying on the bed. She was wearing a red lace bra and black panties, her hair was the reddest I’ve ever seen. She curled up and lay with her back to us. But when she heard us, she stopped crying and rolled over to face us. That’s when a wave of terror washed over me. She was incredibly pale, covered in blood, but the most terrible thing was that she was looking not at us, but behind us.

It was at this moment that we realized that the shower was no longer pouring water, and the door was now wide open. When we turned around, a huge two-meter man was standing in the doorway. The police eventually arrested and detained him. It turned out that he was a rapist. He hid in hotel rooms, kidnapped women who stayed there, raped them, and then cut them open. Many years have passed, but I still never stay in hotels.

Real horror stories at the gym

I currently work as a janitor at the gym. We have a stairwell that leads down stairs to a door that won’t open. It won’t open because we lost our keys years ago. One night, a loud knock came from behind the door. Someone knocked on it every second for a couple of minutes.

At that moment I was at the top of the stairs. I listened and watched what was happening, not knowing what to do when everything stopped. But after a few minutes, someone started knocking again, and it was even more furious than before. At that moment I was no longer on the stairs, I ran to the sound, but as soon as I got there, everything stopped.

The next day I told the manager about it, and he called a locksmith. He opened the door and it turned out that there was only an old closet. And it was empty. Since then, from time to time someone hears a knock coming from that door at the bottom of the stairs.

Real horror stories about Loss of communication

I work as a nurse in a hospital. About two years ago we moved from the old city hospital to a new modern facility. The old hospital was built in the 1930s and there was no point in repairing the building. At night it was especially creepy. No wonder they say that terrible things happen at night – in the light of day in the hospital everything seemed normal.

Each floor of the old building had an east and west wing. The east wing of the fourth floor was the first to close. This was about 2 weeks before the move to the new building.

So, one evening around 9:30 pm, I went upstairs to pick up a patient from the west wing. There I saw several nurses who had previously worked in the same east wing on the 4th floor. They looked visibly shocked. When I asked if everything was all right, they said that they decided to take a walk on the old wing because of nostalgia. As they walked down the corridor, the telephone rang at the nurse’s station. Computers and telephones have not yet been collected from there. Not knowing what to do, one of them leaned over the bar and answered the call. There was an embarrassed female voice on the other end of the line.

– This is Elizabeth. How can I help you? the nurse asked.

— Hello? Who is this?

– I am a nurse. Can I help you with something?

– Where I am?

“This is the [name of the hospital]. What ward are you in?

– Oh, OK.

Then the call ended. It was then that the nurse finally looked at the phone screen to find out where the call was coming from. On the phone was the number of the ward located next to the nurse’s station. But all the chambers were already empty, even the communication line was pulled out there. The girls looked into the ward itself and realized that there really was no one there. Frightened, they ran back to the west wing and at that moment I got out of the elevator and saw that something was wrong with them. In general, I did not appear in that wing under any pretext for all those 2 weeks before the move.
