Speech on Importance of english

Good morning to the Principal, respected teachers, and my dear friends,

India is a country where all Indians are equal and they never discriminate on the basis of language, religion and culture. But whenever we talk about the language here, it is very difficult to call any one language as the national language.

As we know that more than 100 languages are spoken in India. And if we choose one of these as the national language, then people of other states start opposing it.

India is a country where different types of languages are spoken in different places, such as Hindi is spoken in the north and Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam etc. languages are spoken in the south. Unity in diversity is the beauty of this country, and even after having so many languages, we have officially approved only 22 languages. But only Hindi and English languages are widely adopted throughout the country.

If we talk about the origin of English language in India, then the main reason for this was the British. As we know that there are two types of English, one is American English and the other is British English. We follow the British English language because the British ruled us and they gave us this language.

It was Lord Macaulay who wanted to make India a well organized society. That’s why in the year 1835, he got this act passed and implemented in our education system.

The English language was made the official language of India. Under this, English language was being used in all institutions and courts. This is the origin of the English language in India, that the British gave us this language before leaving, it is with us even today through its languages.

As we know that, more than 100 languages are spoken in India, and after independence it was a very difficult task to choose any one language as the national language. While Hindi language was spoken in most parts of the country, but the South Indian people strongly opposed Hindi language and all of them were strongly against considering Hindi as the national language.

As a result, the English language was chosen from the other 22 languages selected. Today there is no official language in India but English language has its own importance.

English is such a language which can be easily understood by people all over the country, so we can also call it the language of unity.

Most of the English is spoken everywhere in the world and it connects us to the whole world.

Our education system is based on English only, so it is very important to learn English in India.

Nowadays, all kinds of companies conduct interviews in English only, so knowing English becomes very important to get a good place and respect in such places.

Surely everyone should know about their native languages, but English is equally important in India, so we should learn English.

The list of food in public places, hotels, restaurants, cinema houses etc. is in English only, so if you do not know English language then you will really feel embarrassed.

English is not only a language but it is also a culture and it helps us to avoid some social and traditional customs like wearing, eating.

It is very easy to learn English as compared to other languages, because the mixture of all kinds of education material in English language is present in English only on the Internet. So it is very important that you learn English language first.

India is a developing nation and a language can change our lives completely, just because it gives you so many options. Suppose you only know about your native language, then you can only work around you, and when you know English, it really automatically opens up a lot of options for you, so It would be good for you to learn English.

Some of us do not want us to adopt a foreign language and they boycott it, but in my opinion the world is changing and those who do not accept it will always be left behind. It is well and good that you promote your native language but at the same time you need to understand the strategies around it. Just learn English as a language, and it will really help you.

Now I am going to conclude my speech, thank you all for being here and making this program a success.
